Low Progesterone Levels and Getting Pregnant

Progesterone levels vary through out the menstrual cycle. An adequate amount of progesterone is need for women who are trying to become pregnant. Low progesterone levels that continue on a monthly basis may mean a woman is not ovulating or menstruating. Progesterone levels help prepare the uterine wall for implantation of the fertilized egg for getting pregnant.

Low progesterone levels can be detected by a blood test after ovulation if you are having difficulties getting pregnant. To get pregnant your luteal phase should be greater than 10 days up to 14 days.

Progesterone treatments can be used for low progesterone levels to aid in getting pregnant. Studies have shown that 70% of women conceived within six months while using progesterone therapy.
