With the birth of our fourth child after a 15 year break we were quick to find out that the whole baby gadget world has changed. Of the hundred or so required purchases we had to learn about baby diapers. Which baby diaper holds the most water... or other liquids?? Which diapers could last through the night without accidents? Most of the disposable diapers on the market have velcro like closures that make getting them off and on somewhat easy especially if you have a wiggly baby. The absorbency of the diapers is amazing. Have you noticed that a full diaper feels like Jello?
The diapers are filled with small beads called superabsorbent polymer gel. The little beads are so small you cannot notice when the diapers are dry, but can absorb up to 300 times its weight of tap water.
So how can you tell which baby diaper holds the most water? You can get several different brands of diapers and remove the cotton like material over a newspaper. Put all of the material into a zip-loc bag as well as what spilled onto the newspaper. Now shake the bag and notice how much powder is left in the bottom of the bag. Do this with each of the diapers that you selected. The one with the most powder will hold the diaper that will hold the most water.
